Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay is a Californian born in Long beach on 24 August 1972. DuVernay was inspired to follow her passion of art by her aunt Denise at the age of a small kid. Aunt Denise was a nurse and was a night shift worker so she could dedicate her time to art literature and theatre. DuVernay was exposed to the movie of 1961 West Side Story by her aunt. DuVernay was instructed by her mom that the arts can serve to engage people. DuVernay was educated by her mother, with a conscience for social issues, and instilled DuVernay to express herself through art. DuVernay lived in Compton during the majority of her youth, however she was able to spend summers with her father's extended family living in Lowndes County Alabama. The father of DuVernay's remembered watching the historic Civil Rights marches through the Edmund Pettus Bridge, in the nearby town of Selma Alabama. DuVernay would use the summers she spent in Alabama to inspire her film Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay graduated with a high school diploma in Saint Joseph High School, Lakewood California in 1990. She went to the University of California Los Angeles to earn degrees in English and African American Studies. DuVernay was in college at the time she began to become attracted to the field of production for broadcast journalism. Her first job was working as an assistant at CBS News in the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembers being assigned to sit at the house of a member of the jury as well as look through their trash. In the course of her work, she became dissatisfied with journalism and moved into the business of publicity. DuVernay began her career as a junior public relations assistant in a tiny film studio shortly after she graduated from college. She started The DuVernay Agency, her PR firm, in 1999. In addition to PR, the company created several lifestyle networks such as Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective Urban Eye, HelloBeautiful. She is famous for her roles as Anna Payne in American Experience, (1987) A More Perfect Union and A More Perfect Union (2009). Melanie Jayne Lynskey was born on May 16, 1977, in New Zealand. She is well-known for humorous, soft-spoken, yet strong characters. She works mostly in independent films. Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16 1937 - August 17 the 17th of August, 2015) was an American actress and ballet dancer popular for her character in the role of Batgirl in the 1960s' TV series Batman and as the green-skinned Orion slave girl Marta in the Star Trek episode "Whom Gods Destroy" (1969).
